Locally in Croydon we have a website croydononline.com which has the Great Droydon Giveaway, where people adverise locally anything they want to give away (or swap; and, if so, for what?) and can advertise stuff they need. This keeps it local - and you don't have to register with a local group, like Freecycle (not that we have one in Croydon anyway).
