Schumacher North is delighted to announce a new programme of weekend residential courses at Scargill House in Kettlewell, North Yorkshire, providing an opportunity to explore themes related to inner and outer peace, ecology, spirituality and the Arts, within a spiritual community in a beautiful natural setting. The courses will be led by outstanding facilitators from a variety of backgrounds, and will combine expert instruction with participatory exercises, meditation and immersion in Nature to provide a deep and inspiring learning experience.

Located in a most beautiful and peaceful location, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Scargill House has a reputation as a forward thinking and open venue, offering a safe space for different beliefs and perspectives. Nad Yoga Sound as a Spiritual Path
Dharambir Singh | 9-11 May


Ustad Dharambir Singh is an internationally renowned Sitar virtuoso and founder of South Asian Arts UK. In this course he will give an introduction to the profound path of spiritual realisation through sound which is at the root of the classical Indian musical tradition.The course will include an introduction to the philosophy of Nad Yoga, meditation and chanting exercises, and interactive workshop sessions giving an in-depth, hands-on experience of the transformative and healing power of sound. There will also be performances by Ustad Dharambir Singh and family, with guidance on appreciating the spiritual meaning of classical Indian music.

Gaia Theory and Deep Ecology
Stephan Harding | 27-29 June


Stephan Harding is one of the world's foremost experts in Gaia Theory and is director of the MSc programme in Holistic Science at Schumacher College and author of Animate Earth: Science, Intuition and Gaia, published 2006 by Green Books. This course will cover the theoretical basis of Gaia Theory as well as an experiential grounding in Deep Ecology, in the form of outdoor meditations and interactive exercises, and a field trip to experience the unique natural environment of the Yorkshire Dales.

Tim Macartney is the founder and CEO of Embercombe, a social enterprise that seeks to inspire committed action towards a truly sustainable world. Over a period of twenty years he was mentored and coached by Native American metis ‘Medicine’ people to learn the Earth Wisdom teachings that once informed the practice of our own British indigenous culture.This course intertwines several themes – the quest for meaning and purpose, organisation leadership, nature, conformity, and the role of ordinary women and men in seeking and securing a future that will serve our children well. It will be a journey of exploration into the heart of who you are, to enable you to get in touch with your true power as a potential leader in our collective journey towards sustainability.

The Point Of Return Art and Spirituality Workshop

A weekend of art-making and contemplation in the glorious Dales countryside. A hands-on practical weekend exploring creativity and its links with spirituality and personal/ecological transformation.
